CBF sponsors a series of memorial services in and around the city of Caen, France

In June 2024, keeping with our long-standing tradition, CBF sponsored a series of memorial services in and around the city of Caen, France, to commemorate the liberation of Caen by Canadian soldiers during the Normandy campaign (June-August 1944).
Being the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion, this year’s memorial services were that much larger in scope – with over 500 dignitaries and guests in attendance, along with a 100 person honour guard provided by the Canadian Armed Forces, and the RCAF Band at the Canadian Memorial Garden in Caen on June 7th 2025. This impressive memorial service, attended by the Mayor of Caen and dozens of other mayors from towns and villages in the Normandy region that were liberated by Canadians in 1944.
Also in attendance were the Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs, members of Parliament and the Canadian Chief of the Defence Staff. This impressive memorial service was then followed by a smaller, more intimate and more somber service at the Abbey d’Ardennes.
